Book 66, 2015
Nov. 15th, 2015 06:13 pmI powered through Touch the Dark in less than two days. It's the first book in author Karen Chance's series about clairvoyant Cassie Palmer.
Cassie is on the run from the vampire mobster who raised her in his household, where he used her gift for seeing the future to line his own pockets. When Cassie learned that Tony was the one who had her parents killed, she ran. Now, Tony has tracked her down, and Cassie is forced to rely on the vampire Senate for protection. The problem is, they're just as keen to utilize her talents as Tony was. The difference is, the Senate members are convinced that Cassie isn't merely a clairvoyant, but the heir to the powers of the legendary Pythia.
Cassie quickly learns she has no true allies--it turns out her roommate is also a vampire who was assigned to keep an eye on her, other vamps she'd known since childhood see her as a tool to be used, Mages both light and dark would like to see her dead, and she's just learned that the Fey are real, and that they have their own agenda where she's concerned. The only "person" Cassie can rely on is a ghostly familiar, but she can't even fully trust him. When Cassie's powers begin growing, she's pulled into a dangerous political scheme with far-reaching ramifications.
I chose this book, thinking I wouldn't get so engrossed in it that I'd neglect my own writing. Ahem. Instead, I was sucked in (pardon the vampire pun!). This is yet another urban fantasy series that I seem to have bought several books in, without having read the first. In this instance, however, I'm glad. I cannot wait to read what happens next!
Giving this one a solid five out of five:
