Book 65, 2015
Nov. 13th, 2015 10:34 pmI finished reading A Wee Murder In My Shop last night. It's the first book in author Fran Stewart's "ScotShop Mystery" series.
Peggy Winn, owner of the Scot Shop, is heartbroken and angry when she finds her boyfriend in bed with another woman. To leave her troubles behind, Peggy travels to Scotland to make some purchases for her shop. She stumbles upon a shop she doesn't recall seeing before, and ends up buying a lovely old plaid shawl there. Turns out that wearing the shawl enables her to see the ghost of a 14th-century Scottish laird. Peggy is surprised that the ghost seems to have accompanied her back to the US.
When she returns to her shop the following day, she finds the body of her cheating boyfriend. When her cousin is implicated in the crime, Peggy starts putting her own clues together to find the real killer.
This was a cute story. I enjoyed Peggy's interactions with both Dirk, her ghost, and Harper, a local policeman assigned to the case. The characters were well-developed, and the plot was engaging, but once again, the murderer turned out to be a sort of fringe character. I dislike that; I feel I wasn't given a chance to solve it, myself!
It was a good book, but I don't think it's a "keeper". I have the second book (not yet released) on my Amazon Wish List, but I may opt to buy the Kindle version, instead. Giving this one four out of five.
