chez_jaeTonight I completed Dead Girls Are Easy by Terri Garey. It is the first book in her series about goth-girl Nicki Styx.
When Nicki has a near death experience, she gains the ability to see dead people. Unfortunately, one of the first she meets is her friend, Caprice, who has been murdered. Caprice doesn't just want justice, however; she has been dabbling in voodoo, and the only way she can redeem her soul is to offer another's in its place. Nicki turns to the world of voodoo for help, and she gets much more than she bargained for.
To complicate matters, the doctor who saved Nicki's life is showing an interest in her. Nicki is attracted to him, until she learns he's married. He claims to be estranged, but Nicki isn't sure what to believe.
The story was neither dark nor fluffy, but an intriguing mix of both. Nicki would like to have her normal life back, but since it doesn't seem to be in the cards, she does everything she can to adjust to her new reality. The book was sweet, sexy and scary by turns. A very promising first installment, and I am keen to read others in the series.
