Last night, I finished reading Ghost Seer by Robin D Owens. It's the first in a new series featuring reluctant psychic Clare Cermak.

When Clare's eccentric great-aunt passes away, Clare inherits the woman's fortune along with her gift of being able to see ghosts. At first, level-headed Clare tries to deny and ignore her new ability, but that leads to a sharp decline in her health. With the help of Enzo, the ghost of her great-aunt's dog, and Zach Slade, a former-cop-turned-private-investigator, Clare learns to accept her gift and make use of it.

Zach has his own issues, which includes the injury that forced him to give up his job as a police officer. An elderly client of his claims that Zach has "the sight", even though he is even more of a skeptic than Clare is.

The story switches focus between Clare and Zach, but it is woven together nicely. Their budding romance gets off to a rocky start when Zach pushes Clare away for fear she's not all there, mentally.

This was an entertaining story--probably more paranormal romance than anything. It included Clare's quest to help the ghost of a gunman transition, as well as Zach's efforts to help recover lost antiques belonging to his client. It also featured a living bad guy, and several other ghosts made cameo appearances.

Four stars!
