Stayed up a tad late last night to finish reading A Haunting at Dixie House by ML Bullock. It’s the 5th book in the “Gulf Coast Paranormal” series of ghostly cozies. Main characters are Cassidy and Midas.
The GCP team has been asked to investigate a haunted B&B called Dixie House. There, a young boy disappeared from his own birthday party and was never seen again, and a young woman was murdered in the pool. Before the investigation even begins, Cassidy comes home to find small wet footprints in her apartment, which piques her own ability to paint scenes from tragic pasts. In the meantime, a former GCP member, Peter, is back and wanting to make amends. Midas isn’t exactly welcoming because he doesn’t want to upset the current dynamic of the team. The investigation reveals some surprising answers, and the team hopes it also lays some ghosts to rest.
This was perhaps the least creepy of any book in this series so far. Creepy lite, if you will. It seemed to focus more on the characters than the investigation. Not that that wasn’t interesting, but I chose to read this in October hoping for some creepiness. ‘Tis the season, man! LOL!
Favorite line: Who knew what this night would hold?
Not scoring this one any higher than three.
