I finished my work book on my break today. It was The Goddesses: Aphrodite's Tale "Fatal Attraction" by Alicia Fields.

I...don't know why this was meant to be a tale of Aphrodite being a goddess, because nowhere in the story was she presented as one. She was merely a young girl/woman in middle class, who happened to be bold and beautiful.

False advertising!

Anyway...Aphrodite is brought home by Zeus, after he found her as an infant. She loves men and the attention they pay to her, and she has no scruples when it comes to, er, spending time with them. Aphrodite loves Ares, Zeus' hotheaded son, but it is his brother, Hephaestus, whom she is eventually married to. May I just say, that once again we have a female protagonist who falls for the "bad boy" while completely disregarding the one who loves her and treats her well. Maddening. We can haz new trope in romance, plz?

The story covered quite a span of Aphrodite's life, from her infancy to seeing her own son married off. The setting was in the same time period as the Trojan war, and the author did a wonderful job weaving historical fact into her fiction.

I did not like this story, but I found myself thinking about it at odd times. For that reason, I reluctantly give it four stars.
