I brought home my "work" book to finish, and finish it, I did!
The book was Crazy For You by Kate Angell.
The story is set on a haunted ocean liner, owned by Sexton St Croix. I am sure the author thought naming her male lead "Sex" was quite clever, but it actually grew rather tedious and ridiculous.
/tangent
Sex is desperate to rid his ship of the ghost of flapper Daisy Alton, whom everyone knows killed Randolph St Croix in a murder-suicide. He invites all manner of psychics aboard ship, including the beautiful clairsentient Bree Emery. Bree goes about her work without fanfair, and despite the distraction of Sex, she is determined to solve the mystery.
The book reminded me of a soap opera, in that it followed several plotlines. You had the growing attraction between Sex and Bree, the reluctant romance between Sex's sister Cecelia and her bodyguard Jackson, as well as the blooming romance between Daisy and Randolph, as revealed in Bree's visions. I can understand the need to tell Daisy's story, but Celia and Jax probably should have had their own. The storyline was interesting, but once again, I chose a book with an overly-assertive male, and those just really hack me off. At least Bree kept Sex at arm's length through most of it before succumbing to his charms. *rolls eyes*
