This morning I read a short e-book novella Fated to a Dragon by Jake Evans. Yes, it was short, but it was chaptered; therefore, I'm counting it.
Ruben has always been fascinated by dragons, and he makes a living writing fantasy novels about them. His roommate is a pragmatic stockbroker, and when their rent increases, he insists that Ruben find them another roommate to share the rent.
Cesar is a dragon shifter. He would like nothing more than to settle down with a mate, but there are none to be found in the Chicago area. Feeling lonely, he replies to an ad for a roommate and meets Ruben. The two of them succumb to insta-lust, and when Ruben's roommate comes home to find them, he kicks them out of the apartment. Cesar doesn't care; he takes Ruben to his dragon lair, where they live happily ever after.
Yawn. It was all rather meh. The author tried to create backstory, but the story itself was too short for that. Either write something long, complete with world building, or just embrace the pwp and keep it short and simple. Sex scenes...sounded downright painful, frankly (no lube? "rampaging into his hole"?), but since Ruben enjoyed it, I suppose it was alright.
Favorite line: "Don't be so quick to judge whether something is fact or fiction. You'd be surprised what's lurking around this world, right in front of your eyes."
