A Skeleton in the Family by Leigh Perry

I was up until after midnight last night to finish reading A Skeleton in the Family by Leigh Perry. It's the first book in the "Family Skeleton" series, featuring college adjunct professor Georgia Thackery, and her friend, Sid the skeleton.

When Georgia was just a girl, Sid saved her from being abducted, and he's been "living" with her family (specifically, her parents) ever since. Now that Georgia has accepted a job teaching at the same college where her parents are tenured, she has moved back into the family home with her daughter, Madison. Sid is happy to have Georgia back, but he is reluctant to officially meet her daughter. Madison is an anime fangirl, and when a con comes to town, Sid convinces Georgia to take him...in disguise, of course. While at the con, Sid sees a woman who sparks a memory in him, and now he's eager to learn who he was in life.

As Georgia digs into the matter, she unearths some secrets that someone is willing to kill to keep. Not only is she looking into Sid's mysterious death, but a recent murder seems to tie into it. Soon, Georgia has her hands full keeping her daughter safe, her skeleton out of mischief, and her job at the college.

The story had a unique premise, and it moved along at a good pace. Characters were portrayed well; even Sid was fleshed out. Hah! While I enjoyed the story, some things did not make sense (and no, the walking, talking skeleton wasn't one of them!). In addition, I was hacked off that the murderer didn't put in an appearance until the end. I hate it when I am given no chance to solve the mystery.
