I spent two evenings reading The Magician's Mistake by Katherine Sparrow. It's the first novella in the author's Fay Morgan chronicles.
Famed witch Morgan le Fay now lives a rather quiet life in Seattle, working in her Wiccan shop and watching over other supernaturals in the city. Her spotty memory, she attributes to her age. When a strange magician and a werewolf burst into her shop one day, Morgan's quiet life is thrown into turmoil. Suddenly, other witches in the city are attacking her, at the behest of a nameless enemy. It's up to Morgan, her apprentice Lila, the magician Kestrel, and the werewolf Adam to save the day.
The story had some minor editing issues, but nothing too jarring. It was interesting, but I wish the characters would have had more depth. Personally, I didn't like it that Morgan was physically affected when her memories began to return. Powerful sorceress should be powerful!
Favorite line: "I am ever the hunter, never the prey."
For now, giving this an average rating:
***
