Between Wednesday night and Thursday night, I rocked through Fair Game, by Patricia Briggs. It's the third book in her "Alpha and Omega" series, featuring Alpha werewolf Charles, and his Omega mate Anna.

As his father's enforcer, Charles has done more than his share of killing, and it's beginning to wear on him. When Anna appeals to Bran to help his son, he sends Charles and Anna to Boston to assist the FBI in investigating a serial killer who seems to be targeting paranormals. Charles and Anna help as much as they can, and their unique, combined abilities reveal more information than the FBI had to work with previously.

Another young woman is abducted, but this time, the killer has grabbed the daughter of a powerful fae. Charles and Anna find themselves working with fae, witches, and humans, all in an effort to rescue the girl and mete out justice to the killer.

The story was riveting and kept me turning pages. Some things I could see coming, like that Anna would be taken (and I figured out the killer rather quickly, too), but it was entertaining to see the characters sort through clues and reach their own conclusions.

Favorite lines:
♦ "I probably shouldn't enjoy it so much, but sometimes I take great pleasure in sending a man off in a snit; don't you?"
♦ "Is it like a Harry Potter thing?...You know, don't say Voldemort's name because you might attract his attention?"

HP references, for the win!

Stellar story, five stars!
