Dang, I almost forgot today's post!

Things I accomplished today:

Got gas, at $2.89 per gallon
Got groceries and cat supplies, and I stuck to my list and my budget
Folded laundry
Ran the vac
Put dishes away
Read some of my book

Things I FAILED to accomplish today:

I forgot to stop at the body shop and make a payment on my bill
I didn't get one of my birthday requests done
I didn't land a real job

I had a good day in Naperville with my friends. I saw both a beautiful sunrise this morning, and a spectacular sunset in the evening. Saw some gorgeous hats in an antique shop, but they were out of my (limited) price range today. Le sigh.

We had perfect weather for a fall outing, and the Riverwalk was gorgeous!

I just got home from having supper with my friend Lynne. We're both poor, so we met at Taco Bell. *laughs* We used to work together, and I miss seeing her. Now, we're lucky to get together two or three times a year.

On the way home, I had to brake for a cat, a raccoon, a deer, a possum, and another small animal that I didn't see closely enough to determine what it was. Sheesh.

Tomorrow is a trip to Naperville with Jillian and Marsha. I hope we don't freeze our assets.

Is there anything worse than waking up with a headache? I didn't even have fun last night to account for it.

Breakfast this morning was a lemon poppy seed muffin and an advil.

Happy Hump Day!

For me, Hump Day means Ghost Hunters and Storm Chasers, two of my favorite television programs.

My temp agency called today, to tell me of a job in DIXON.
Um, that's nearly an hour away from me.
Really?!
Yes.

I hope they don't give me any grief over it. Even before I signed up for unemployment, I asked IDES about the commute. The person I spoke to in their legal department informed me that the standard commute in my area is half an hour. I am beginning to fear that the only company my agency is connected to near me is the same insurance company that I "timed out" of. That means, they can't place me back there until the first of the year. *head desk*

This sucks.

I love to watch the old black and white "scary" movies. They were scary at the time, I'm sure, but now they're just plain cheesy and funny. I remember one, in which the "Blob" looked like a person crawling around under a blanket!

What the hey, I may as well do NaBloPoMo here again, seeing as I'm online most every day anyway.

Today has been vexing. I went to Farm & Fleet for cat food and cat litter. I bought two different bags of litter--one clumping and one non-clumping. The cashier scanned the clumping bag twice, which was a dollar more than the other. I had already paid for my purchases using my debit card, when I brought the error to her attention. She re-scanned the cheaper brand of litter, had me pay for it, then instructed me to go to customer service for a credit on the incorrect receipt. Long story short, I ended up getting a cash refund, which was fine. Such a foofarah, however! But, all was accomplished with polite civility. No need to get all belligerent and excited about an honest mistake.

Tau got whupped with a flyswatter for picking on his sister. It's not so much that he was picking on her, it's that he didn't cease and desist when I told him to. And, I told him twice. That's one more warning than the cats normally get. When he wouldn't let up after I yelled at him the second time, I snapped and took a flyswatter to his furry rump. I think he was trying to assert his dominance over Timea, but Tau seemed to have forgotten just who the alpha bitch is in this household. He remembers now.

Other than running errands and swatting cats, I took down all the Halloween decorations, dusted, put out new autumn-y decorations, and I did the laundry. I still have dishes lurking in the sink. Blah.

Timea got a wee bit rowdy this morning, but nothing like yesterday.  I slept in waaaaay late, although I probably needed the sleep.  I had a spectacularly unproductive day; however, I'm not going to stress about it.

Tomorrow (later today!), I'll go with my parents to a second Thanksgiving dinner at my cousin's home.  She lives on a dairy farm, so I'll haul Flat!Niece along with me again for photo ops.  Cousin TJ and I were laughing about it at Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday.  He works at a police station, and he said if I brought Flat!Niece there, we could take a picture of her in the booking room.  What a hoot!

Although this is my final NaBlo entry, I may post to this journal in the future.  As mentioned before, feel free to tag me for memes on this account so I have an excuse to post here.  *laughs*  Er, please refrain from doing so in December, however.  I'm going to be crazy-busy with fics and drabbles in December.  I can do it; hear me roar!

Timea nearly died this morning, because I was this close to killing her.  After not going to bed until about 5:15am, it was less than three hours later that she decided to become a complete shit.  She kept coming in my bedroom, messing around in things and making noise.  I'd sit up and yell, and she'd scamper out, only to return again.  When I had had enough, I flung myself out of bed, chased her all over the house until I caught her, then tossed her in the bathroom and closed the door.  I then went back to bed, where I did finally manage to fall back to sleep.  And before you ask, no, I don't have a door to my bedroom.

When I went outside later to feed the cats out there, I took a walk into the pasture in search of some green catnip.  I found a small patch and picked four sprigs to bring to Taj, Seamus, Tau and Timea.  It was her first time with catnip, and she got all silly with it!

So, I'm not a complete ogre, and she's not a complete shit, which I guess makes us even.

Thanksgiving was celebrated in Wisconsin this year.  Typically, the day is spent with my mother's side of the family, and this year was no exception.  Usually, Mom's stepbrother and his family do the traveling, but this time we all made the trek north to spend the day at their house.  We had turkey and dressing, corn, mashed potatoes, salads and more food than you can shake a fork at!  Dessert was pumpkin or peach pie, and we also had a birthday cake to enjoy.

My cousin and I played Jenga after dinner, and I ruled!  She lost all three rounds, although to be fair, the cat caused the first collapse when it was her turn.  *laughs*

I took along my niece's Flat Stanley so I could get photos of it in Wisconsin for her.

I'm looking forward to having the day off on Friday, especially since it's Friday already and I have yet to go to bed.  Headed there now!

Taj was sitting next to me earlier this evening, talking at me and flicking the end of his tail.  Timea happened to see that intriguing movement, and she crouched down and began her stalk.  I actually sat there and said, "Don't do it, kitten!  Don't do it!"  Alas, she did.  Timea grabbed the end of Taj's tail, and he hissed and whirled and boxed her ears three times before she could get away.  *laughs*  I tried to warn her.  Taj is rather disdainful of her anyway, and he has those gigantic paws with all those extra toes and claws...And for an old geezer, his paws are lightning-quick.  *nods*

Since tomorrow (okay, today technically) is a holiday, I get to sleep in an extra couple of hours, which would mean I can stay up an extra couple hours, too.  Unfortunately, I'm tired right now.  What the...?  That's not fair!  I guess if I'm getting whiny about it, I should get to bed, huh?
chez_jae: (Default)
...or did LJ crap out on everyone last night?  Good thing I always make my NaBlo posts early, so I had time to still make an entry for today!

I haven't seen Pepe le Pew since that one sighting and smelling, but I had a possum in the yard last night when I went to feed my cats.  Stupid thing.  My friend Twinkie stopped by late (she's a night owl, too!) to pick up the Longaberger basket she ordered from me in October.  We chatted for a bit, and she got to play with Timea.

Locally, gas is down to about $1.79 a gallon at its cheapest.  What is it around all of you?
chez_jae: (Default)

I love Christmas music, I truly do, and it's all I listen to for the entire month of December.  From the first through the thirty-first, all I will listen to are my Christmas CDs and Christmas music on the radio and through my satellite television at home.  One local radio station has traditionally played all Christmas music from Black Friday through Christmas, and I recently learned a second station is jumping on the holiday music bandwagon.  However, this second station is already playing Christmas music!  I'm like, "Aaargh!  Not until December!"  *laughs*

I just purchased a Sarah Brightman holiday music CD, and rumor has it Enya is coming out with one this year, as well.  I can't wait until December to listen to them!

Lazy day

I've had a quiet day, so nothing interesting and glamorous to write about.  Sorry.  Ha ha ha!  I slept in quite late, which felt great by the way, and I got my laundry done.  Otherwise, I played online and harassed the cats.  Timea got in trouble last night for knocking a nearly full glass of tea over where it was resting on a coaster on my end table.  Gah!  Remind me again why I brought a kitten in the house?  She runs around like a fart in a frying pan, and when she's not doing that, she's sleeping.  It's like she has only two speeds!

This will be a short work week for me, which is nice, but I won't get paid for both days off.  I think my temp agency will reimburse me for Thanksgiving day, but I'm not counting on getting paid for Friday.  Still, a four-day weekend will be so welcome.

Have a good week, everyone!

My uncle came to my house today to help me paint one of the bedrooms.  Painting is something he doesn't mind doing, and since he's retired, he likes to pitch in and help.  He tackled the ceiling, and I painted the walls, and it turned out quite well.  The walls could probably use another coat, and I still have to paint the inside of the closet, but the worst of it is done.  I'll need to buy carpet for that room and then I can "move" into that room and establish it as my bedroom.  I'm debating on whether I should keep the cats out of it or not.  On the one hand, I enjoy a furry body (or four!) on the bed at night, but on the other hand, I could do without the fur.

Decisions, decisions.  And expenses, expenses!

By the way, several years ago, I helped handyman brother on two painting projects and earned $10.00 an hour to do so.  At least my uncle didn't hand me a bill for his time!  *laughs*

An odd day

It's been an interesting day.  We had breakfast pizza at work, because one person was leaving us.  I found out later that the gal who sits across from me was leaving, too!  Apparently, she turned in her resignation yesterday.  She was getting rid of some of the things at her desk, including some leftover Halloween candy, and I snagged a box of Milk Duds.  While eating them, I broke a tooth!  *wails in despair*  That's never happened to me before!  Gah!  I once lost a baby tooth while eating a Starburst, but that was long ago.  So, a trip to the dentist looms in my near future.  Damn.

I had to make a run to Walmart after work to get some things to paint with, then I came straight home and completely forgot to detour into the small town where my bank is located so I could get cash from the ATM.  It's hell to get old, I tell you.

I had supper with Mom and Dad, chewing very carefully all the while.  My tooth doesn't hurt at all, and it's just a small piece that broke off, but now I'm half afraid to eat anything.  I could stand to lose some weight anyway, I guess.

I had an epic nap, which meant I was late posting a birthday!fic for a friend, plus I had to retrieve my holiday fest fic from beta, tweak it and submit it.  Wouldn't you know Old Faithful here chose tonight to be all wonky and slow?  Slower than normal, I should say.  Several times, I had to simply disconnect from the internet and reconnect just so I could proceed.

I'm going to bed.  Blah.
chez_jae: (Default)

On any given day, I may have as many as half a dozen small scraps of paper with cryptic things jotted on them.  I laugh sometimes when I wonder what the police would think of these little messages, should they need to go through my belongings for a clue as to my demise.  I jot down snippets of things that happen throughout the day so I can recall them when I write in my journal at night.  I also write down any plot ideas that come to me and even funny things I've overheard or read during the day.  I have also written entire drabbles (half in longhand, half in shorthand) when I've been bored.

Police chief: "Were there any clues?"
Officer: "Plenty of clues, sir, but what does it all mean?!"

It means nothing, you fools!  *laughs*

Speaking of the police, a sheriff's car followed me most of the way to work today, so I was all nervous and spent more time watching my speedometer than the road.  Heh.
chez_jae: (Default)

I organized a Longaberger order for the month of October, and when I got home today a big box of Longaberger products was waiting for me.  Too bad not all of the stuff is mine!  *laughs*  Longaberger always packs their items in a lot of paper, so I flung all the papers on the floor to get to the goods inside.  You can guess what happened next.

The cats had a field day in all that paper!  They jumped in it, hid under it, wrestled on it...you name it.  Timea and Tau loved it, and even Seamus got in on the act.  Only Taj didn't seem impressed by all the paper.  My living room looked like Christmas had arrived early.  Ha ha!  I just now tossed the paper back in the box, and the cats were all looking on quite sadly.  Heh.
chez_jae: (Default)

Don't know how much longer my good-paying assignment at the insurance company will last as things are slowing down. I'd like to think I can keep my current "job" at least through the end of the year.  My father is worried that his hours may be cut to four days a week at the factory where he works.  Guh.  The economy is tough all around.  Are the rest of you doing okay, job-wise?

My legs look like I've been hiking naked through the thorns.  I haven't, I assure you.  Rather, I have a spastic kitten in the house, and she has sharp claws and a propensity for trying to scale me like a tree.  Yowch!

I napped earlier.  I meant to sleep about half an hour.  Instead, I slept two hours.  What the...?  I guess I needed the sleep, but it didn't help me in my quest to get caught up with online things.  Curses.

Have a happy hump day, everyone!

chez_jae: (Default)

After stewing about the Christmas situation all day, I called my sister tonight and flat out told her that I was hurt and dismayed to have been excluded from what should have been a family discussion/decision.  She apologized, but I'm not sure she really gets just how upsetting that was.  My family has always been close, so I suppose that's why I am so baffled and bewildered and hurt to be left out like that.  I guess I'm also angry that neither of my brothers spoke up on my behalf and said, 'hey, we need to include everyone'

This has really taken some of the luster of Christmas away for me.  I know that sounds childish, and I also know I'll get over it eventually, but right now?  Yeah, still hurt.  Thanks for all your kind, understanding words, everyone.

Finally, if the LJ server move ends up in more down time than they anticipate and I cannot meet my NaBlo commitment for the 19th, heads will roll!
