Just finished reading The Trouble With Magic by Madelyn Alt. It's the first in her "Bewitching Mystery" series, featuring Maggie O'Neill.
Maggie is tired of her dead-end job, and when she gets fired, she quickly gains employment at Enchantments, an antiques and gift shop owned by Felicity Dow. Working with Felicity leads Maggie to discover that her new boss is a witch, and Felicity thinks Maggie has powers of her own.
When Felicity's sister is murdered, and Felicity becomes the prime suspect, Maggie refuses to believe that she could be guilty. She begins doing some digging of her own.
This was a good story. Not exceptional, but certainly entertaining. Maggie is a believable heroine with plenty of foibles. I have other books in the series, and it will be interesting to read more of Maggie's adventures.
Four stars:
★★★★
