chez_jaeI'm backdating this entry; I was confused, because I was certain I'd read another book between "Fantasy Lover" and "Derik's Bane"...and, I had. Hee!
Book 10 was Dying Bites, which is the first installment in author DD Barant's "Bloodhound Files" series.
Jace Valchek is an FBI profiler, specializing in "mentally-fractured" killers. In an alternate universe where humans make up only 1% of the population, insanity is virtually unheard of. Therefore, with a serial killer on the loose, Jace is ripped from her reality into the alternate one. Her boss is a vampire, and her partner is a golem. Jace suffers a moral dilemma when she finds herself sympathizing with the plight of humans in this verse.
As far as urban fantasy is concerned, this was a unique premise. It was an interesting take on the trope of tough, smart female human dealing with supernatural beings. There was one glaring plot hole that left me shaking my head, and that ruined some of my enjoyment. I do have other books in the series, and I will definitely read them.
