My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I finished reading To Catch a Witch last night. It's the 8th book in Heather Blake's "Wishcraft" mystery series, featuring Wishcrafting witch, Darcy Merriweather.
Darcy's concierge service, As You Wish, has been hired to organize a race for charity in the Enchanted Village. The morning of the race, however, the woman who hired Darcy goes missing. When Abby is found dead, buried in snow, it soon becomes apparent that she was murdered. Darcy is tabbed by the Elder to investigate, as the crime involved the Craft. Darcy finds herself looking into not only Abby's last moments, but also workplace drama, doping scandals, and tangled relationships. On top of her investigation, Darcy is also dealing with her sister Harper's illness and broken heart, dodging her nemesis, Dorothy, trying to lure Dorothy's son Vince to the light side, and making plans for her upcoming wedding to Nick. Lucky for Darcy, she has a strong support system, including friends, family, and familiars.
Fun and fast-paced. Had a lot of nifty twists, too. Some of them I sussed out early, others left me flat-footed.
- Darcy, our Wishcrafter, never granted a single wish
- If everyone knows the heinous acts that Dorothy has perpetrated, why haven't her powers been revoked?
- Why is the Eldership passed on to the YOUNGEST female in the family? That makes no sense. If the then-youngest woman agreed to take up the mantle when the time came, then another girl is born into the family before that event, making HER the youngest female, what happens? Absurd
- How many different Crafters can there be?! Sheesh
Favorite line: If there was one thing that would perk up her spirits, it was reading.
In spite of the minor aggravations, I'm giving this one four stars.
