I knocked back an entire ebook novella last night. It was The Ghost Detective: The Haunted Hospital by PJ Tremblay. This is the first in the "Ghost Detective" series, starring Mira Hawking.
Mira "wakes up" and finds herself floating over her own body, which is in a hospital bed. As an investigative reporter, Mira was closing in on the local drug kingpin. Now a ghost, Mira is determined to finish what she started, even though she was nearly killed while investigating. Along with her new allies (another ghost from the hospital and a nurse who can see her), Mira sets a trap for the drug dealer, unaware that he may be setting a trap for her.
This story was somewhat confusing. I liked the concept that ghosts only exist if the person is in a coma. That was a different take. But, I couldn't figure out how the bad guy seemed to know that Clint's ghost was not only haunting the hospital but also working against him. Also ( Spoiler ) No real explanation was given as to how/why nurse Maggy could see and hear Mira, nor how the bad guy cottoned on to the scheme to take him down. Minor editing errors abounded.
Favorite line: "She's been in a comma for days." Nothing about this jumped out at me except for the amusing editing error.
The story was disjointed and uninspired. Two stars.
