Book 99, 2017
Dec. 13th, 2017 08:25 pmLast night, I finished reading Bell, Book & Candlemas by Jennifer David Hesse. It's the second edition in the author's "Wiccan Wheel" mystery series.
Attorney and private Wiccan Keli Milanni is excited for the Wiccan holiday of Candlemas. However, the lone new age shop in town is being targeted by vandals who are leaving hateful messages aimed at the owner, who is an out and proud witch. Keli is asked to help Mila, but she is also keen on keeping her own religion a secret, not just from her staid co-workers, but also from her bff and her new boyfriend, Wes. The situation comes to a head, however, when someone is murdered in the shop, and it becomes obvious that the perpetrator is trying to frame Mila. Keli intensifies her own investigation, and it leads her into a dangerous situation that she may not get out of.
The story was...okay. Not great, but not bad, either. Keli is engaging enough, but so far, this series has failed to captivate my attention, which is why it's taken me so long to read this one.
Favorite line: Reverend Natty was a regular contributor to the opinion page of the Edindale Gazette, railing against everything from women's rights and gay marriage to Star Wars and Harry Potter.
Lighten up, Reverend!
