Book 25, 2015
Apr. 25th, 2015 04:47 pmLast week some time, I finished reading Spider's Bite, which is the first book in author Jennifer Estep's "Elemental Assassin" series.
Gin Blanco is an assassin known as the Spider. She is a Stone elemental, capable of communing with and manipulating stone. Gin also has some ice magic, which she uses in her line of work.
When she is offered double her normal fee to kill an alleged embezzler, Gin is instead the victim of a double-cross. She's been framed for a murder she didn't commit, and the man who handles her cases for her has been brutally killed. Caught in the crossfire is Detective Donovan Caine, a by-the-book cop whose partner Gin once killed. Now the two are reluctant partners as they try to stay alive and track down the person who is actually responsible for the recent crimes, a dangerous Air elemental who will stop at nothing in a mad quest for power.
This was an enjoyable book. It should be difficult to like an assassin and cheer for her, but Gin does have her own sort of ethics that she adheres to. The story was fast-paced, sexy and violent, and it was filled with interesting characters. I am looking forward to reading more of this series.
Four stars:
★★★★
