Last night I finished reading Halfway to the Grave, which is the first in author Jeaniene Frost's "Night Huntress" series.

Catherine Crawfield is half-vampire, born to a woman who was assaulted by a vampire. As a result, Cat hates all of the undead and makes it her mission to eliminate as many of them as possible. When she is captured by Bones, who's a bounty-hunting vampire, he gives her a choice between death or training with him as his partner. As Cat spends more time with Bones, she begins to realize that not all vampires are evil. When the two of them uncover a trafficking ring, they become the hunted.

It was interesting to see Cat's metamorphosis from lucky-but-naive to an accomplished warrior, and it was even more interesting to witness her internal conflict as she was forced to admit that vampires are just like humans: some good, some bad. This was a dark and edgy book, violent and sexy and deeply engrossing. By the end of the book, Cat was glorious in battle. I am eager to read more of her adventures.
