Book 12, 2014
Feb. 7th, 2014 07:45 pmLast night, I completed My Life as a White Trash Zombie by Diana Rowland.
Angel Crawford wakes up in the ER after a car crash. However, she has no injuries, and the ER personnel all tell her she was brought it after OD'ing. Angel is no stranger to popping pills, smoking joints and drinking. She floats from one dead-end job to another, is on parole for a felony, and lives with her equally deadbeat dad.
Before leaving the ER, Angel is given some clothing to wear, some odd energy drinks and a note, which she assumes is from her parole officer, telling her to report to her new job at the county morgue. Before long, Angel finds herself craving brains and unable to get a buzz from her other vices. She eventually discovers she was turned into a zombie. Now, her new job at the morgue is vital to keep herself supplied in brains, plus, she begins to enjoy her new responsibilities. When some of the bodies that Angel is sent to collect have been decapitated, she realizes that a zombie hunter is on the prowl.
This was certainly a unique twist on the zombie trope. I could almost describe it as gruesome lite. It featured tense moments and amusing ones in equal measure.
I know there are at least two more books in this series, but I'm not sure I'll buy/read them. The story was good, but zombies are not my usual cuppa tea.
