Book 16, 2013
Jul. 28th, 2013 10:42 pmJust polished off the book Shy by John Inman. It was a male/male romantic comedy, featuring Tom, who suffers from Social Anxiety Disorder. Tom thinks his condition is bad, but when he meets Frank, who also suffers from SAD, Tom realizes his symptoms pale in comparison.
The two of them are introduced by Tom's ex, who left him for Frank's brother Stanley. Tom has always hated Stanley as a result, but once he meets Frank, he begins to fall in love. Unfortunately, Frank must return home to the family farm in Indiana to help his dying father. Tom has never left the city, but he goes along, with his chihuahua Pedro.
Tom's experiences in learning to help with chores had me laughing out loud, literally. I cannot recall the last time I laughed so hard while reading a book. Despite Tom's inexperience and Frank's father's illness, all is going well...until Stanley shows up. Stanley doesn't care about the farm or even his father; he's only concerned with his inheritance.
Even with Joe's terminal illness and Stanley's dastardly assholishness, the story was lighthearted and funny. It was a sheer delight to read, and I will be looking for more books by this fabulous author.
Five stars!
