On Monday (or was it Tuesday?), I finished reading A Wolf in Wolf's Clothing by Deborah MacGillivray. Once again, I managed to pick a book that was part of a trilogy. However, this one seemed to be happening within the same time frame as the others, so I wasn't really missing anything.

The basic plot was that Trevelyn Mershan and his two brothers have each selected a Montgomerie sister to seduce and destroy as payback for the fact that the women's grandfather allegedly drove the men's father to suicide. Of course, my first thought was, 'What did the women have to do with it?' *shakes head*

So, we have a self-described wolf, stalking his beautiful, vulnerable prey, intent on crushing her. Once Trev met Raven, however, he seemed to forget all about his nefarious plans. He was hot to bed her, of course, but then he admired her and desired her and began falling in twu luv, all within a matter of days. Naturally.

For her part, Raven seems frail, but she's made of stern stuff. Except where Trev is concerned. Raven falls into bed with him that first night, and she also falls into twu luv within a matter of days. Since neither one wanted to say it, neither knew how the other felt.

Is anyone following this plot? Because I had a hell of a time with it. I pretty much spent the entirety of the book thinking the "hero" was nothing but a douchebag and the heroine a little pansy pushover. I'm surprised I didn't chuck the book across the room. Believe me, I wanted to. The author threw in a slightly magical, paranormal element, some eccentric friends and family, an abusive ex-husband, a few oddball pets, sex and death and fire, and decided she had a story.

In my book, this story earns one star. And, I give that begrudgingly.
