My rating: 3 of 5 stars
We had an office luncheon today. Since I stayed in, I was able to finish reading my work book: Strange Neighbors by Ashlyn Chase. It was a fluffy paranormal romance featuring nurse Merry MacKenzie and falcon shifter Jason Falco.
At the age of 25, Merry is excited to finally be moving to her own place in Boston. She's found an ideal apartment in a renovated brownstone, and she can't wait to finally live the life of a footloose, single woman in the city. Her first day there, Merry meets her new landlord, gorgeous baseball player Jason. He seems like the perfect candidate for a fling, but Jason has something more permanent in mind. Falcons are monogamous, and he believes he's found the perfect mate in Merry. Things are progressing smoothly between them, until a vicious tabloid headline paints Jason as a fickle playboy. Merry is crushed, and it will take the efforts of the other supernaturals living in the building to salvage her relationship with Jason.
This was mostly cute, uncomplicated fluff. The obstacles were quickly overcome, but some things were never explained to my satisfaction. ( Cut for Spoilers )
A fun story, although I could have done with fewer point-of-view changes. Switching between Merry and Jason is one thing, but the author doodled off to give us several other povs, and it got to be too much. Sex scenes were sizzling, and the humor was great throughout.
Favorite line: "I'd rather jump barefoot off a six-foot step ladder into a five-gallon bucket full of porcupines than see anything bad happen to you."
Waffling here. I'm going to give this an average score.
